TMTR Training Standards

The Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable (TMTR) began as a guild of professional mediators and trainers whose work through the years has guaranteed the quality of training for mediators by setting quality standards.

Since its inception, the TMTR  has established standards for the 40-Hour Basic Mediation Training and the 30-Hour Family Mediation Training.  In addition, the Roundtable has provided other guidance on training methodologies.

​Online mediation training courses that are both at the same time LIVE and INTERACTIVE for the entirety of the course, conducted by a trainer who verifies in training materials and certificates of completion that their program satisfies and meets the Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable’s standards, are meeting the Texas Mediation Trainers Roundtable (TMTR) standards.

Developed during 1992 and 1993, TMTR revised and adopted these standards on November 3, 2003

These standards were adopted by TMTR on September 11, 2000

Texas-Specific Mediator Short Course Standards

These standards were developed in 2015 and TMTR changed the minimum time for this course from 4 hours to 2 hours on September 9, 2022

Elder Mediation Training Standards

These standards were developed in 2017 and adopted by TMTR on June 4, 2018

Standards for Ethics Training for Mediators

These standards were developed by TMTR in 2003 to promote the quality of continuing education programs on mediation ethics

Standards for Continuing Education in Mediation

These standards were developed by TMTR in 2004 to promote the quality of continuing education in the field of mediation

Training Standards Compliance Affirmation

This form is for use by TMTR Approved Trainers to affirm that their course conforms to TMTR standards
